About |
|
The Criminal Solicitor Dot Net web site was established in February 2004 by Gavin Burrell. Gavin is a solicitor employed by BTMK, a firm of solicitors based in Essex. Gavin practices solely in criminal law. Gavin qualified as a solicitor in 2000 and became a Duty Solicitor in 2001 after becoming a member of the Law Society's Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme. Gavin is assisted in running the web site by a number of other individuals.
The Criminal Solicitor Dot Net web site provides criminal practitioners with free resources including news, updates and information on criminal law and criminal contracting. The site has many resources, although some of which require registration in order to access them. Membership to the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net site is free.
There are many features of the site that are only accessible to registered members:
- Case Law Updater - the updater contains cases that the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net team consider to be important and relevant to criminal practitioners. The cases are updated, usually, on a daily basis. The case reports cover decisions from all levels of courts including the House of Lords, Court of Appeal, Queens Bench Division (including Administrative and Divisional Court decisions). Where possible full judgments are displayed with the case reports.
- Legislation Updater - the updater covers all legislation created since April 2004 that is considered to be relevant to criminal law and includes items such as statutory instruments, bills and acts. The Legislation Updater allows you to peruse relevant legislation in a format that provides a summary of the legislation in addition to displaying the full content of the legislation from the Office of Public Sector Information web site.
- Newsletter- The Criminal Solicitor Dot Net Newsletter is published, usually, on a weekly basis. The newsletter is sent by e-mail to members who have chosen specifically to take advantage of the newsletter. The newsletter contains news on legal developments in the world of criminal law and developments for criminal contracting. The newsletter also provides updates on content added to the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net site such as new cases or legislation. To view a copy of the latest newsletter follow this link.
- Download Centre - the Download Centre contains a wealth of resources of use to criminal practitioners such as the most recent version of the PACE Codes of Practice, and the most recent version of the General Criminal Contract.
- Forums - at the heart of the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net web site are the forums. The forums are organised in to structured parts to allow discussion of all aspects of criminal law and criminal contracting. Guests may view the forums but only registered members can participate in the forums by posting messages, questions and answers. Many members of the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net web site regularly read the messages posted and enjoy providing answers, or simply discussing issues raised in the forums.
- Blogs - Blogs or even Blawgs can be read by members including Diary of a Criminal Solicitor, The Law West of Ealing Broadway, and The Policeman’s Blog.
Parts of the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net site that are accessible to guests include:
- Forums - guests can read posts made in the forums but cannot reply to posts, or create new topics for discussion.
- Newsfeeds - the Criminal Solicitor Dot Net publishes a number of newsfeeds that can be read in newsreader or on other web sites.
- Web Links - the Web Links directory contains many links to web sites of interest to criminal practitioners. The Web Links directory is updated on a regular basis to include new organisations and new sites.
